چکیده

We study the response of the interacting electron gas in one dimension on the local external potential. In the low frequency limit the power-law singularities are essentially modifyed by backscattering effects which, in the case of zero forward scattering, result in the universal critical exponent depending only on the Luttingerliquid interactions. The results obtained may be used to describe singular responses of the 1D boson chains.

Fermi-edge singularity in a spin-incoherent Luttinger liquid.

We theoretically investigate the Fermi-edge singularity in a spin-incoherent Luttinger liquid. Both cases of finite and infinite core hole mass are explored, as well as the effect of a static external magnetic field of arbitrary strength. For a finite mass core hole the absorption edge behaves as (omega-omega th)alpha/square root of absolute value (ln(omega-omega th)) for frequencies omega just...

The Fermi Edge Singularity and Boundary Condition Changing Operators

The boundary conformal field theory approach to quantum impurity problems is used to study the Fermi edge singularity, occuring in the X-ray adsorption probablility. The deep-hole creation operator, in the effective lowenergy theory, changes the boundary condition on the conduction electrons. By a conformal mapping, the dimension of such an operator is related to the groundstate energy for a fi...

Particle-hole symmetric Luttinger liquids in a quantum Hall circuit.

We report current transmission data through a split-gate constriction fabricated onto a two-dimensional electron system in the integer quantum Hall (QH) regime. Split-gate biasing drives interedge backscattering and is shown to lead to suppressed or enhanced transmission, in marked contrast to the expected linear Fermi-liquid behavior. This evolution is described in terms of particle-hole symme...

Luttinger liquids and composite fermions in nanostructures: what is the nature of the edge states in the fractional quantum Hall regime?

We study the Aharonov–Bohm conductance oscillations of a constriction with an antidot in the fractional quantum Hall regime using a recently proposed composite-fermion Fermi liquid theory, and also using Wen’s chiral Luttinger liquid theory extended to include mesoscopic effects. The predictions of the composite-fermion Fermi liquid theory are very similar to standard Fermi liquid theory and ar...

Mesoscopic Effects in the Fractional Quantum Hall Regime: Chiral Luttinger Liquid versus Fermi Liquid.

We study tunneling through an edge state formed around an antidot in the fractional quantum Hall regime using Wen’s chiral Luttinger liquid theory extended to include mesoscopic effects. We identify a new regime where the Aharonov-Bohm oscillation amplitude exhibits a distinctive crossover from Luttinger liquid power-law behavior to Fermi-liquid-like behavior as the temperature is increased. Ne...
